On 26 February, pupils from Year 10 welcomed their counterparts from the Johanna-Eck-Schule for a language exchange in English. They explored the ideas of being a host and a guest, with both schools taking on the role (like an actor) of hosts and guests over the course of our 2 hours together. They also began to get a picture of what English in the Oberstufe will entail, practised their interpersonal skills, and above all had the chance to connect with new people. Teachers on both sides were proud of how the pupils did, in a situation where talking with new people can feel awkward or challenging, especially in a second language. Real connections were formed between some of the pupils. The whole event ties into our wider focus on how communication skills contribute to a fulfilling life - both professionally and personally, whatever the pupils’ individual aims and ambitions.
