The Waldpiraten run is a whole school event hosted by H.I.S.

Our latest event took place on Tuesday the 29th of September and we had a great turnout of students, parents, and staff!

For the past eighteen years, H.I.S. has been dedicated to raising money for the Waldpiraten, a local organization that runs camps for children suffering from cancer and their families. The Waldpiraten Camp is based in the forest above Heidelberg and is a residential camp offering therapeutic activities for children from all over Germany recovering from cancer.

The Waldpiraten children and their siblings can sign-up for a week-long camp filled with high-ropes courses, bicycle rides, arts and crafts, and even theatre. What is amazing is that even children who are confined to wheelchairs are able to participate in these activities and all of this is available for free to the families.  It relies on donations to keep the camp running. The Waldpiraten run their organization based on donations. The money raised is used to accommodate children recovering from cancer to attend the camp.

Many H.I.S. students had sponsors supporting their participation and the money/donations collected will be donated to the Waldpiraten Camp at the end of October.

Next year will be H.I.S.’s 20th year doing the run in support of children with cancer. We are very much looking forward to making it special!
