We are delighted to share that H.I.S. students once again achieved success in the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) project.
As part of the project, students receive and work with the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung over a period of six weeks. This year, the project involved students from the Grade 8/9 GLL class. At the end of the six weeks, students were invited to research and write their own newspaper articles. The best submissions were then selected for publication in a special RNZ supplement.
This year, 11 schools from Heidelberg took part in the project, with 26 classes and 642 pupils participating. More than 100 articles were submitted, and the 50 best were chosen for publication in the RNZ.
We are especially proud that one of our students, Elias from Grade 9, won third prize. His well-written interview with a Lufthansa pilot was awarded a prize of €200 for the team. On the introductory page of the supplement, the journalists leading the project praised the gripping style of Elias’ article, which fills an entire newspaper page.
In addition to Elias’ success, three more articles by our budding H.I.S. journalists were selected for publication:
• Elisha, Grade 8, wrote an entertaining and well-crafted interview with an air stewardess.
• Joan and Wolfie, Grade 9, contributed street interviews with students in Heidelberg.
• Hanna, Grade 9, wrote an interview with our very own Margarita Mechkova about the pitfalls of AI.
Congratulations to all the students whose work was published. This is a wonderful achievement and a great example of thoughtful research, strong writing and student voice in action.
