This week, the Secondary School came together in a spirited assembly to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students throughout the academic year. The event was a vibrant showcase of dedication, talent, and perseverance across a broad spectrum of disciplines.

A major highlight was the recognition of our Grade 11 students who successfully completed the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, a journey they began in Grade 10. Their commitment to the programme exemplifies the spirit of resilience and leadership we strive to nurture at H.I.S.

In the field of Mathematics, students from across all grades were honoured with certificates and prizes for their outstanding performances in various mathematics competitions. A special thank you goes to our Mathematics Department for their tireless efforts in organizing these enriching opportunities and supporting our students every step of the way.

Our interdisciplinary approach to learning also took centre stage. Grade 10 students participating in a Science and Individuals & Societies project created compelling video entries for the global World of 8 Billion competition. One of our submissions proudly advanced to the semi-finals, showcasing the power of creative thinking and global awareness.

Recognition also extended to the German Language and Literature department, where a Grade 11 student’s aphorism on the theme of “departure/upheaval” was selected for publication in an anthology by the Deutsches Aphorismus Archiv. This is a significant literary accomplishment, and we commend the student for their thoughtful contribution to the written word.

Sporting excellence was also celebrated, with awards and certificates presented to numerous students who represented the school in Heidelberg’s many competitive sports events. These athletes continue to display impressive sportsmanship and passion, making the school community proud.

Leadership and initiative were acknowledged as two Grade 11 students were celebrated for their successful organization of MiniMUN, an event already highlighted by the Rhein-Neckar Zeitung in a recent article.

Our community’s achievements extend beyond our students. We were thrilled to congratulate a teacher who was named one of the top 10 winners in Heidelberg’s “Eine Stadt schreibt” short story competition. Her story, Vage Firnis, placed 8th out of 307 entries. The event received notable press coverage, including a feature and photo in the Rhein-Neckar Zeitung.

As the academic year draws to a close, we proudly celebrate not only the achievements of our Secondary students and staff but also the vibrant, supportive community that empowers them. Congratulations to all members of the H.I.S. community—your hard work and creativity are a testament to the strength of the MYP and DP curriculum.
