Ground-breaking (27. March 2007)

On Tuesday March 27th, H.I.S. celebrated the first step in the construction of a new purpose-built school facility with a Ground-breaking Ceremony. The ceremony took place on a gloriously sunny day and the Lord Mayor of Heidelberg spoke of the importance of the Heidelberg International School to the region.

In attendance were representatives of the city of Heidelberg, our co-operation partners and other international businesses, as well as the parents and other members of the H.I.S. community and the local press.

The students entertained us with the school's "building song"?, and then they and the speakers all enjoyed"breaking the ground"? using the mini-backhoes - an experience many of them will not forget for a long time to come!

Currently, vegetation is being cleared for the construction of an access road to the construction site. The next step will be the excavation work for the gymnasium. Unfortunately, only construction workers will be allowed to handle the back-hoes but it will be interesting to watch.
