Location & Facilities
H.I.S. is conveniently located near the centre of Heidelberg and is easily accessible by car or public transportation from Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Karlsruhe. Our location, within the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, allows families to take advantage of the area’s cultural and recreational attractions and opportunities.
H.I.S. 4,100 square metres school facilities, consisting of three inter-connected buildings, allow for an increase in the student enrolment numbers to a total of approximately 300 students.
Our enhanced library facilities include study and instruction areas for different age groups and are available to support the students’ reading and research needs during, before and after school hours. Students congregate in the Multi-purpose Room for assemblies and lunches, and at other times this room is used for regular and special events co-ordinated by our staff and Parent Teacher Group. Specialised teaching facilities such as an art studio, a music room and a science lab, in addition to individual subject and grade classrooms, are accessible to students.
The classrooms are flooded with natural daylight. In fact, we often hear comments on the light, bright and welcoming atmosphere within the whole school. This has been achieved through the inclusion of many windows and additional glass surfaces throughout the school and through a co-ordinated colour-concept for the classrooms, hallways and furnishings.
The fully equipped school gymnasium, one of the favourite spots of our students, has two climbing walls, which are used during PE lessons and also as part of the After School Activities Programme.
