Kathleen Macdonald, School Director

In 1985, Kathleen graduated from Dundee University, Scotland, with a teaching degree specialising in Geography, Computing Science and PE. In addition to teaching in Scotland, Kathleen has worked in France, Berlin and as a technical writer. She has been with H.I.S. since January 2001, initially as a classroom teacher, and since 2005 in the position of School Director.

Allyn Raw, Deputy Director, IB PYP Co-ordinator

Allyn has a degree in European Studies from the University of Essex and a teaching certificate from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has taught in Cologne, Germany and worked in schools for children with special needs and as a carer in children’s homes in England. Allyn played a leading role in developing the PYP at H.I.S., and is an IB Workshop Leader.

Kevin Whitmore, Secondary Principal, DP Co-ordinator

Kevin has a Masters degree in Information Technology in Education. He has over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience. He worked at Osaka International School in Osaka, Japan and before that as Head of Technology at Marcellin College in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to his other roles, Kevin teaches Theory of Knowledge and Technology.

Anke Schumacher, IB Middle Years Programme Co-ordinator

Anke studied at the Universities of Cologne and Düsseldorf and has teaching degrees in German and English as well as in German as a Foreign Language. After teaching at German schools, she taught at the International School of Düsseldorf. She joined the German department of H.I.S. after moving to Heidelberg in 2007, and teaches MYP and DP classes.

Thomas Frenzel, Managing Director

Thomas has a degree in Business Administration and Economy. He worked as Marketing Director for the business media section of the publishing house Gruner+Jahr in Hamburg before he joined Phorms Education in 2009. In addition to his role at H.I.S., Thomas is also responsible for Marketing in the Phorms Education headquarters in Berlin.

Lori Novak, Admissions Counsellor

Lori has a Bachelors degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada. She worked in admissions at the Atlanta International School prior to joining H.I.S. in 2002. Other previous positions include working as an Orientation & Mobility Instructor for the visually impaired and as an English Language Trainer. Lori has also lived in South Africa and the USA.

Nathalie Sommer, Administration Manager

Nathalie is a native of Heidelberg and remained in the city to study Marketing and Health Management. She moved on to Stuttgart and Berlin where she completed a Masters in Business Administration. Before joining H.I.S., Nathalie worked in Event Management and spent a year in Syracuse, New York as an exchange student.
