Admissions

The school has an open enrolment policy, offering enrolment to students who can benefit from the educational provision offered, providing there are openings available. Special consideration is given to siblings and to applicants of the international community. Students with severe learning disabilities can be admitted only if in the School Director's judgement, adequate provision can be made to meet their needs.

Students are placed with due regard for their age, social development and previous schooling and in consultation with their parents.
In general the cut-off date for placement is October so that as a rule:

Students in:

Early Primary 1
Early Primary 2
Grade 1
Grade 2

should be:

4 years old before October 1st
5 years old before October 1st
6 years old before October 1st
7 years old before October 1st

and so on ...

Exceptions will only be made after thorough consultation with all parties concerned. In cases where there is an element of doubt about the placement of a child, we recommend that the student be placed in a lower grade level, with the option of moving up a grade if appropriate. This initial placement is tentative and the school may advise a change of class after the child's abilities have been thoroughly observed.

H.I.S. accepts applications for admission throughout the year. For planning purposes, local applications should be submitted by March 31st. There is no deadline for applications made from abroad, though we recommend that families contact H.I.S. if applying after March 31st.
